Draworld Center, DERC
Draworld Environment Research Center (DERC, Beijing), founded at June, 2012, is a professional research center working on the themes of energy and environment policy, planning and project assessment in energy and power sector. The center targets of DERC, is to provide knowledge products and policy recommendations for China’s green economy development and the governance of global commons. It is expected to have a thorough evaluation on the achievement of the center in 8 years (at the year of 2021). If the target achieved, the center will be closed.
The focus of the center from the year of 2014 to 2016 is the economics of coal and renewable. To facilitate the cooperated projects now undergoing and the center’s development target, three groups are divided:
Group 1:
On China's energy policy design and assessment, with constructive policy influences and analysis strength for China' coal, power and renewable-related technology, policies and markets. Some of the studies and policy proposal by him and his team, has been adopted by the government as official policies implemented or in the pipeline. The examples include: to support the subsidy account for renewable surcharge through the reduction of benchmark thermal electricity on-grid price, to tight the policy stringency of reducing coal use, to cancel the flawed cap on energy use.
Conducted the project on Investment and finance, and operation mechanism of natural gas utilization in Beijing, Economic impacts of large-scale bioenergy development in China etc.(sponsored by World Bank)。
Group leader: TBD
Group 2:
On China's power sector reform, smart grid, and technology, economic, policy and projects regarding renewable energy integration into the grid.
Group leader:To be hired
Group 3:
On China's coal enterprises and industrial development, on the context of scarcer environment resource than energy resource, focusing the prospect and pace of coal role from fuel to feedstock.

Center Foundation Background
- Governance of global commons. Due to the scarcity of climate resource (Emission of Greenhouse Gas will cause the climate change problem), utilization of fossil fuel, land and forest is more like the behavior to consume commons.
- Rising of Green Economy. The current global climate negotiation regime upon UNFCCC multilateral mode and deep mitigation are difficult. The new climate protection paradigm with green economy development is the hope for the future.
